Design and Technology
Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Children are encouraged to think creatively to solve a range of real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts. They have the opportunity to consider both their own wants and needs and also those of others while making functional products through the ‘Design, Make, Evaluate’ process.
At Cheriton Primary School, children are provided with a curriculum that encourages independence, resilience and creativity. The Design and Technology Curriculum develops learning and allows children to acquire a range of skills and knowledge. Wherever possible, learning will link to other subjects, such as Computing, Science, Mathematics and Art.
Design and Technology at Cheriton Primary School aims to create the next generation of creative thinkers, innovators and designers. Our children are encouraged to build resilience, take risks and become confident problem solvers.
At Cheriton Primary School, the curriculum for Design and Technology aims to ensure that all pupils:
- Develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world.
- Build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding, skills and vocabulary in order to design and make high-quality prototypes and products for a range of users.
- Critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products and the work of others.
- Understand and apply the principles of nutrition and learn to cook.
